An old stump is more than an eyesore — it attracts carpenter ants and termites, sprouts suckers for years, and ruins a mower blade if you forget where it is. Grinding gets the stump out of your way in a single afternoon, with none of the cost or property damage of excavation.
What we do
- Grind stumps 8-12 inches below grade (standard)
- Deep grind for replanting (18-24 inches below grade)
- Surface root grinding for trip hazards near sidewalks
- Optional mulch haul-away or backfill with topsoil
- Multi-stump pricing for lots with several removals needed
- Same-day grind on the day of tree removal (bundle pricing)
How it works
Quote by photo or in-person
Send us a photo with a tape measure across the stump's diameter and we'll quote you over the phone. Free in-person if you'd rather.
Utility marking
We call 811 before any grind on your property. Hitting a buried gas or fiber line is everyone's worst day.
The grind
Our grinder is rubber-tracked — it won't tear up your yard getting to the stump. A typical 18-inch stump takes about 20 minutes.
Cleanup
We haul the chips, or pile them as mulch for your garden — your call. We can backfill with clean topsoil for an extra fee.
When to call us
- You just had a tree removed and skipped the stump
- Suckers and shoots keep growing back from an old stump
- The stump is in the way of a fence, deck, or landscaping project
- You're selling the house and want the yard to show clean
- Surface roots are tripping people or cracking concrete
- Carpenter ants or termites are visible in or around the stump
Frequently asked
How much does stump grinding cost in Omaha?
Most residential stumps run $120-$400. We typically charge $4-6 per diameter inch for surface grinding, with a $120 minimum. Tight access, multiple stumps, or deep grinding for replanting adjust the price.
Do you grind the roots too?
We grind a few feet of surface roots radiating from the stump as standard. Full root excavation is excavator work, not grinding, and we can refer you out if that's truly what you need (rare for residential).
Can I plant a new tree in the same spot?
Not directly. The ground is full of decomposing wood chips that pull nitrogen from new roots. We can deep-grind and replace with topsoil, or you can plant a few feet to the side of the original stump.
Will you damage my yard getting there?
Our grinder is rubber-tracked and we lay plywood on soft ground. We can also walk in through a 36-inch gate. Most jobs leave zero ruts.
