There is a real difference between trimming and 'hacking.' Bad pruning can rot a 40-year-old oak from the inside out. Our crews are trained on ANSI A300 standards — the right cut at the right collar at the right time of year. Your trees should look better and live longer because we showed up, not despite it.
What we do
- Crown thinning to reduce wind load and let light through
- Crown raising — lifting low branches off rooftops, driveways, and walkways
- Deadwood removal (the biggest insurance hazard most homeowners overlook)
- Structural pruning on young trees to prevent codominant stems
- Vista pruning to open sight lines without harming the tree
- Storm preparation pruning before Nebraska severe-weather season
How it works
Walk the property
We look at every tree on your lot, talk through what's structurally sound and what isn't, and recommend only the work that actually needs to happen this year.
Flat written quote
Per tree, itemized. You can approve all of it or just a couple — your call.
Pruning day
Climbers use proper saddle and rope systems (no spikes on living trees). Cuts are made at the branch collar, never flush, never leaving stubs.
Cleanup
Brush gets chipped on-site. Lawn gets raked. Driveway gets blown clean. You come home, the trees look great, and you can't tell we were there.
When to call us
- Branches are touching or rubbing your roof or siding
- You can see dead wood hanging in the canopy
- The tree hasn't been pruned in 5+ years
- Limbs are blocking the sidewalk or street (city of Omaha requires 14ft clearance)
- Storm season is coming and the canopy looks dense or unbalanced
- You just planted a young tree and want to set its structure right
Frequently asked
When is the best time to trim trees in Omaha?
Late winter (Feb-March) is ideal for most species — the tree is dormant, you can see the structure, and there's no leaf-out stress. Oaks specifically should NOT be pruned April-July due to oak wilt risk. Dead and hazard wood can be removed any time of year.
How much do you trim off?
Never more than 25% of the canopy in a single year, and usually less. Aggressive 'topping' is industry-banned for a reason — it kills the tree slowly. If another company quoted you to 'top' a tree, please get a second opinion.
Will trimming hurt the tree?
Proper pruning helps. Bad pruning hurts. We follow ANSI A300 standards, cut at the branch collar, and never leave stubs. Done right, your tree heals over within a season or two.
Do you trim oak trees in summer?
Only for emergency or hazard work, and we paint every cut immediately to prevent oak wilt. Routine oak pruning we schedule between November and March.
